I don’t know about you, but I cook with onions all the time! They are such a great anti-inflammatory food that adds amazing flavour to so many dishes. Years ago, at a cooking class, I learned the how to chop an onion the proper way and it just about revolutionized my cooking experience. And now, I’ve got “Top Chef Canada” alum and Richmond Station chef, Carl Heinrich, on board to show you how it’s done like a pro!
This simple, yet effective dice will shave time off your meal prep for sure! And, just like Carl says, the more you practice, the faster you will become. Just mind those fingers!
I seriously did love this knife…he didn’t let me keep it, though 😉 .
But, hey, showing you how to chop an onion properly is the kind of gift that just keeps on giving! So have a look at this fun and informative video if you want to learn how to master your onion-cutting knife skills.
Mmmmmm, onions! So full of health-promoting nutrients. That potent and spicy smell comes from the onion’s sulfuric compounds which will help support your liver. Onions are also high in the natural anti-histamine quercetin as well as the trace mineral chromium, which helps to regulate  blood sugar! They’re also loaded with antioxidant vitamins C and E and also contain good amounts of minerals like biotin (think hair, skin and nails), iron, and potassium plus, fibre to boot! And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Onions are undoubtedly a super-healthy addition to your diet, so add all sorts of different varieties when you can!
How do you go about chopping an onion? Did you know about this top chef time saver? Will you be practicing? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
Happy dicing!
