#EatSomeGood Guide: Toronto

Working as a busy media professional often meant a lot of eating out and eating on the go. Things are different now that I’m a holistic nutritionist. But, even as much as I love to cook my own healthy, delicious meals at home, I still adore Toronto’s eclectic restaurant scene. Luckily, we live in a city that’s home to some of the best healthy restaurants in the country.

It was the many requests for healthy recommendations that led me to create a video series highlighting some of my favourite spots. Each week, I get down and dirty in the kitchen with some of Toronto’s most health-focused chefs to talk whole food philosophies and whip up a nutritious signature dish of theirs. Look out for the latest video every Thursday, starting June 11 (catch the trailer down below).


My selection criteria were simple: I chose restaurants that champion healthy, whole foods and local and organic ingredients. I nicknamed this movement EAT SOME GOOD for two reasons: First, perfection isn’t the key to healthier and happier life. For most people, transitioning to a healthier lifestyle happens in baby steps. So, if you can’t eat ALL good all the time, I encourage you to just eat some good and eventually you’ll want more. Also, in the East (where I’m from) we use the word some interchangeably with very so, it’s also a nod to my hometown.

If you know me from my television career, you may be wondering what’s up with this massive change in direction. I’ve worked on a variety of networks over the past 15 years, including the CBC and Food Network Canada. The last television gig I had was a seven-year stint on Entertainment Tonight Canada where I travelled the world interviewing some of the biggest celebs of our time. I learned lots during my time there. I spent a lot of time talking to passionate people who were creating work they were proud of. Perhaps one of the most valuable lessons I learned from that experience was that I, too, needed to follow my passions and create content that I was proud of. For me, that meant helping people feel better. After some soul searching, I went back to school and became a holistic nutritionist.


I feel strongly about the power of real food in optimizing our health and in preventing many chronic diseases. I have experienced, first-hand, both the destructive and healing power of food and I’m on a mission to inspire others to develop healthier habits.
