Basic Green Smoothie

For the days when you just want to do a straight ahead, simple and tasty green smoothie, I’ve got you covered with this “basic” green smoothie. It’s very easy to make and is as refreshing as it is satisfying.

You know how I love smoothies for breakfast because it makes it so easy to jam a ton of great nutrients into the top of your day. Whizzing the food also helps to partially break it down, which is easy on your digestive system. The addition of lemon here also increases digestion not to mention gives it a nice, fresh kick. But, please don’t guzzle your smoothies. That’s a lot of food up in there and your body still needs time to work its digestion magic in your belly. So, just sip slowly, please.

Obviously, leaving the skin on your apples is super important because that’s where a lot of the vitamins and minerals are found. In fact, over half of the apple’s vitamin C is found just beneath the skin (also why it’s important to buy organic to avoid those nasty pesticides.) And speaking of peels, the peels of cucumbers are really high in silica, which is a great mineral for your skin and bones. Ah yeah, can I get a woot for silica?!

If I don’t use any frozen produce, I usually add a few ice cubes to slightly cool my smoothies because that makes me happy. Feel free to omit the ice if you could care less.
